A year ago, I decided to enter the blogosphere to call attention to issues that impacted minorities and to put a minority perspective on issues being discussed in the media. Beyond that purpose, I had no concrete goals, no measures of efficacy, nor any real expectations beyond having a forum from which to digitally scream out my frustrations and to point out the things that mattered.
When I started, I really didn't expect that anyone would listen. That's been the most delightful and unexpected result of this experiment - that there are kindred voices and spirits out there. Even amongst those who disagreed, the fact that they responded was refreshing - to know that there is still room for debate (mostly, although sometimes it was just more hoarse screaming.)
In my time at Carnegie Mellon, I've become something of a numbers guy, so here is Minority Report by the numbers:
- 427 - the total number of posts. (1.7 per day)
- 19,469 - the total number of visitors. (53.39 per day)
- 194 - the total number of comments by other visitors.
- $161.52 - the amount I've spent maintaining this site.
- $8.12 - the amount of money I've made running this site. (I won't get a check from Google until it hits $100).
- B$2,480.82 - Valuation on BlogShares (Don't ask - I don't know what it means, either.)
- 12 - the number of blogrolls this site appears on.
- 1 - number of blogging awards the site was nominated for.
I was going to go into the number of times my patriotism, intelligence, humility, and anger were questioned, but who has time to go through all that?
the look on the face of the hapless tom cruise fan who stumbles upon this site: priceless. congrats on a year.
